Runtime blunder - Everything That we Need to Know About a Runtime blunder

Runtime Error, 5/17/08, Brooklyn, NY by richardgin.org

I can sum up my first Windows Vista Home Premium experience with two words: "Kernel Error". Yep, not a half hour after I first booted up and started installing my usual programs I received a driver incompatibility message after installing the latest Java Runtime Environment, or at least that's what I assumed the incompatibility had to do with. I looked at the system events and saw that Kernel Error. I did a system restore to right before I installed JRE and I still received the driver incompatibility warning. The problem is, it doesn't say when, where or why. It did give the who and what but when I went to my device manager there were no ominous error icons and everything looked okay.

A little upset, and a little confused I ripped open my Dell Driver CD and re-installation disk and wagged it at the monitor but I quickly decided I wasn't ready for a 7:00pm operating system re-instillation, especially because I was used to Dell's typical 1 CD re-installation kit. Vista for Dell has three CDs - one for the OS, one for the drivers and one for the Vista upgrade. Not that I couldn't handle the pressure of two extra CDs (pffft, please) but I just wasn't in the mood because I had a bigger fish to fry.

Graphics. When I customized my Dell, I knew I needed 2 GB of RAM to live comfortably, I knew I needed the faster processor and hard drive but when it came to the graphics card I had an attack of thriftiness. There were 4 choices and two of them weren't compatible with the nice purdy glossy monitor I chose. I wound up choosing the cheaper of the two graphics cards to save about $200 and because of that, my monitor isn't as glossy as it could be and my graphics are a little grainy. If I had Windows XP pro on here this thing would be high-speed and amazing, yet despite the upgrades and a hog of an operating system I have a mediocre machine with a "Windows Index Experience Base Score" of 3.0 thanks to the graphics card. Yes, I said, "Windows Index Experience Base Score" but I will discuss that a little later.

So why did I choose the lower-quality graphics card? Simple. I'm not a gamer. I don't need high-speed 3D graphics and all that, so my IT instincts told me I would be fine. I'm all about aesthetics so if I had known that my glossy monitor would look grainier I would have spent that extra money in a heartbeat. Lesson learned.

Now back to the Windows Index Experience Base Score. Each hardware component receives its own score, 5 being the best regarding compatibility and speed. Your base score is determined by the lowest subscore, mine being 3.0 despite my 4.6s and 4.8 on the other important components. When Windows Vista-compatible software comes out it will have a minimum base score somewhere on the label. Microsoft suggests you don't purchase software graded higher than your base score as it won't run very well.

As far as general functionality, a seasoned Windows System Administrator will notice changes in certain semantics but these changes aren't so foreign that you can't find your way to areas regarding your system's performance and networking, which will make it easier to administer to others once Vista becomes more mainstream. So far the only thing I had to hunt down was the old add and remove programs section. It's no longer in the Control Panel. You go to the proverbial start menu and select Default Programs on the right and then select Programs and Features on the left. Then it will show. As for the rest of the control panel it is easy to navigate through plus you can switch it back to classic style the same way you could in XP. Also, there is no Start/Run to access the command prompt. Instead you access it from the Start menu at the bottom where it says, "Start Search". I typed in CMD and there it was. I haven't found an easier way to access it but it's really no different than entering cmd into Start/Run in the old OS.

As far as software compatibility, minus that pesky driver error, I've been able to install and run all of my basic standards such as iTunes, Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Firefox, Photoshop and the entire Macromedia suite.

Windows Vista Home Premium, despite its misleading moniker, is only sufficient for basic end users as one is not allowed to remote into other computers, change OS languages and pretty much all other convinces one took for granted with XP Professional. To get these options without already having Vista Business Edition, you have to upgrade to Vista Ultimate. Unless you opted in for the free upgrade at the time of your original purchase, the upgrade to Ultimate will cost $157.

Also, if you purchased Microsoft Home and Student 2007, the Word documents are not compatible with earlier Office versions, plus the extension is .docx on other platforms and not doc. I found out the hard way when I E-mailed a .docx page to my other computer and it looked all encrypted and said it needed pro11.msi for the conversion but I didn't have my old Office CD handy.

Ever more frustrated with the limitations of Vista Home Premium, I'm currently upgrading my new laptop to Ultimate as I write this. I have a while as, "The upgrade may take several hours". Awesome.

How to Remove Windows Error Messages as well as urge Windows opening

Mac by marikp1018

When you buy a brand new computer you expect it to be relatively fast no matter what program you are running. This is especially true when you are buying a desktop computer, since they are usually much faster. Some computers gradually become slower over long periods of time due to normal computer use. Sometimes it can also be attributed to wear and tear, but when your computer freezes suddenly, becoming sluggish, you know that you have an abnormal problem.

It is especially a pain when the computer freezes to the point where you cannot use the computer at all. Also it becomes very hard to do any computer troubleshooting because you cannot use the computer. Unless you are a computer professional you would have no idea where to start. This is a good situation where knowing some basic skills can help you determine what the problem is.

If your computer freezes suddenly while you are doing something then you may not have enough physical memory to run the current program efficiently. Physical memory is also known as RAM. This cannot be solved by increasing the amount of virtual memory because virtual memory is the reason why the computer is sluggish is the first place. Virtual memory is too slow to run programs efficiently. When you do not have enough RAM for certain types of programs they can time out. When they time out they can either close abruptly or cause your computer to become unstable and freeze. The best thing to do in this situation is to invest some money in some RAM upgrades. If you do not want to spend any money then you can try closing all of the programs and processes that are not important to maximize the amount of RAM that the program can use. This is not the best way but sometimes it is the only way as far as money goes.

Another reason why a computer freezes all of a sudden is bad RAM. There will be a part of the RAM that will not save some vital information. Even it is a little bit of data it can cause the computer to crash or display the hourglass indefinitely. Just like the last problem, resorting to RAM upgrades will be you best choice. It is also possible that both of these problems may be plaguing your computer simultaneously. Getting RAM upgrades would be like knocking out two birds with one stone.

Big Mac and Evil Grimace by Waffle Whiffer

When you want to reinstall Windows XP there are a lot of problems and obstacles that you can run into. The main thing that you need to worry about is how you reinstall Windows XP. Most people do it the wrong way because they do not want to pay for another copy of Windows XP. To make sure that you do not do it the wrong way you will have to have some basic knowledge about how you can mess it up.

When you realize that you have to reinstall Windows XP you probably have also noticed that you have lost the installation CD that came with the computer. Sometimes you find out that you never had an installation CD to begin with to reinstall Windows XP.

One of the biggest mistakes the people make is reinstalling Windows XP with a bad or modified copy of Windows XP. Most people do not really know the differences between the different versions of operating systems such as Windows XP. There are the normal versions of Windows XP then that are the pirated versions of Windows XP. You probably do not want any of the pirated versions of Windows XP on your computer if you have any information on your computer that you want to keep safe.

The first step to finding out which versions of Windows XP are pirated you really just have to know which ones are real. There is only Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional. If you see anything other than that then you probably have a pirated version of Windows XP. You have to look for this when you install the operating system because recent updates have forced some computer to just say Windows XP when they boot instead of labeling the version of Windows XP.

Some known pirated versions of Windows XP are Windows XP Ultimate Edition and Windows XP Black Edition. The Windows XP Ultimate Edition is easy to spot because it makes your computer look and feel like Windows Vista Ultimate. I know that it is tempting to try but you may have a lot to lose on your computer. Windows XP Black Edition might not be so easy because Windows XP can normally look like Windows XP Black Edition with the help of programs such as Windows Blinds from www.stardock.com. The best thing you can do is to make sure you get your installation file or disc from a reliable source.

Windows XP Activation...Must Activate Within 90473437 Days. WTF? by Daniel.Techie{TaiShan~4Ever} @ 127.0.0.1

Is your computer suddenly running slower than usual? Are there some programs or files that suddenly you can't access or open? These are just few of the problems computer users like you face. If your computer suddenly behaves differently than usual, it is quite certain that there is a problem. What you don't know is that a virus maybe causing all of your issues.

Viruses are rampant nowadays. Sometimes you don't even know you have one, until it makes your computer crash. Nobody wants that to happen. There are a number of ways on how to avoid being infected by these viruses.

I'm pretty sure you have heard about some of the anti-virus applications in the market. If you don't have one, you'd better install one. There are numerous anti-virus applications online that can be downloaded for free. These applications are your main line of defense against these viruses.

If you already have an anti-virus installed, you may think you are all set. Not yet. You have to keep your application up-to-date. Updated anti-viruses will protect you from the latest threats in the internet. You can set the program to look for updates on a regular basis. In addition, you should also set the program to automatically scan your computer regularly. This way, you are ensuring that your computer is clean and safe at all times.

In line with this, you should also be careful in opening emails and email attachments. If you do not know, viruses can easily spread in emails. If one of your email contact's computers is infected, it could send by itself to your email address. Thus, giving you the virus in the form of email attachments. In order to avoid this, you should be very careful in opening emails. You can do this by first checking the sender and the subject line. Try to see if this sender would typically send you an email with that subject line. If it seems out of the ordinary, then you might as well check it with the sender if he or she really sent you that email. Furthermore, you should always scan all email attachments before opening them in your computer.

Along with the anti-virus, you should also have a firewall installed. No, I'm not referring to the one you put at your houses to prevent fire from spreading. I'm talking about a firewall application for your computer. To keep it simple, a firewall acts like a gatekeeper between your computer and the internet. It checks out everything that goes in and goes out of your computer. In this way, you can prevent hackers and identity thefts in breaking in your computer and steal important information such as credit card numbers and bank account numbers. Also, you somehow prevent unwanted files that could be possible threats for your computer. Through firewalls, you can also control which programs can gain access to the internet.

These things that I have mentioned are the most basic ways in protecting your computer along with the data you have in it. As all things in the world, you cannot expect everything to be perfect. New viruses come out on a regular basis. Because of this, I suggest that you should always have a backup copy of your files. When I say backup, I do not mean that you save another copy of the files on the hard drive. But rather, you should save them in an external storage device. These external storage devices can be in the form of USB flash drives, CDs, and even DVDs. In doing so, you secure all your important files just in case something unexpected happens.

Flex 4 Gumbo justificationStyle runtime error by ebow

Hello Jerry,

Here is a short quote from our documentation:

Problem:

Using RadControls with RadScriptManager on your login page throws one of the following errors:

  • ASP.NET Ajax client-side framework failed to load

  • 'Sys' is undefined

  • “Telerik.Web.UI” is undefined

Cause:

As the website denies access to all pages to unauthorized users, access to the Telerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd handler is unauthorized. This causes the handler to serve the content of the login page instead of the combined scripts, hence the error.

Suggested solution:

Add a <location> section to the application configuration file to allow access to Telerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd to all users, like:

Add location property

Hi all,

I am new to Java and programming in general, and since I need it for school (mechanical engineering) I thought I'd get a head start and download and install it on my PC. When the installation seemingly finished and it prompted the webpage for me to register my copy, I received this error dialog box:

Does anyone know of a fix for this? I don't know what exactly it is, so I want to get some more opinions before I proceed with any course of action. TIA guys.

Troubleshooting usual Outlook Error

Flexity Outlook from Brussel visits Stockholm by Jonnie Nord

In this tutorial I will show you how to do the basic things in Microsoft Outlook 2000. Microsoft Outlook 2000 is not the same thing as Outlook Express. So don't confuse the two. Both are email programs but have different setups. I personally like Outlook Express better but some may disagree. It's probably because I'm use to using Outlook Express. In this guide I will show you how to do the following.

How to Create a New Email Message
How to Send an Email Message
How to Forward an Email Message
How to Delete an Email Message
How to Attach a File or Image to your Email

Go ahead and open your Outlook 2000 program and let it load. The first thing that I will show you is how to create a new email message.

How to Create a New Email Message in Outlook

At the top of your program you should see a button that says New with an arrow beside it. Click the arrow and click Mail Message from the drop down menu. If you do not see the New button, press CTRL N on your keyboard to create a new message. You can also click File > New > Mail Message. The new email message will pop up and you will need to enter the address that you want to send your message to and type your message. That is how you create a new message in Outlook 2000.

How to Send an Email Message in Outlook

Once you have finished typing your email, you can then send it to the address that you typed in the box. To send your message, click the Send button at the top of your message window. If you do not see a Send button, click File > Send or press CTRL Enter on your keyboard. That is how you send a message in Outlook 2000.

How to Forward an Email Message in Outlook

You may get a message that you want to forward to friends or family. You can forward the message by clicking on the message, then click the forward button at the top of your screen. When you click that button the message will pop up and you will need to enter the address of the person that you want to forward the message to. Then click the Send button.

How to Delete a Message in Outlook

Click on the message that you want to delete. Just click on it one time. Then go to the top of your program and click the Delete button. If you do not see the delete button, press the delete key on your keyboard.

How to Attach a File to your Message in Outlook

Create a new message. Then type your message. Go to the top of your message and click Insert > File. When the window pops up, locate the file that you want to Attach and click it. Then click the Insert button. That's how you attach a file to your email message.

The Pittsburgh job outlook is improved because of the addition of at least 1000 Pittsburgh jobs by existing employer Westinghouse, as well as increased growth by companies such as Medrad, Heinz, and UPMC. But how does the Pittsburgh job and salary outlook compare with the rest of the nation?

Interestingly, when you consider the background of our region's employees, the Pittsburgh job and salary outlook should be much better than the nation as a whole. Pittsburghers are more educated than the average American. According to data taken from the 2005 American Community Survey completed by the U.S. Census Bureau, 32.8% of Pittsburghers are college graduates (versus the national average of 27.2%) and 91.1% of Pittsburghers are high school graduates (versus the national average of 84.2%). 67.7% of Pittsburghers are in "professional" or "office" jobs (versus the national average of 60%). Pittsburghers are older than the average American, and thus have more work experience.

However, even with all of this talent, experience, and responsibility, the median earnings of Pittsburgh-area workers are significantly less than the national average - median earnings for Pittsburghers was $61,620 (versus the national average of $63,834). As the Pittsburgh job outlook improves, the Pittsburgh salary outlook is not keeping up with the national average. Potential reasons for pay discrepancy between Pittsburgh & the national average include that the cost of living in Pittsburgh is lower than the national average and that many Pittsburgh jobs (with hospitals, universities, and banks) are lower-paying.

So, even if you can find a Pittsburgh job, you may not be getting paid what you would be in another part of the country to do a similar job. The good news is that many new Pittsburgh jobs that are being added by Westinghouse are highly paid, with average salaries ranging between $70,000 and $80,000. Hopefully, this will trigger other employers to "up the ante" and add additional higher paying Pittsburgh jobs.

In any case, as a region, Pittsburghers have wondered why our young people continue to leave Pittsburgh and have explored many ways to encourage people to stay. However, maybe the answer is that we expect our highly skilled workforce to take a pay cut in order to remain in Pittsburgh. If this is true, then the Pittsburgh job and salary outlook may not be as favorable as is hoped.

Struggling opposite windows depressed shade? Donot panic, check out to get the ultimate solution

Microsoft windows XP by save my system

If you are familiar with Outlook 2003 then you might know that the program is hosted on a server and that all of the mail that comes into your inbox is stored on this server. Well for storage purposes the server normally is set to limit the amount of email stored for each user on the server. Once a user exceeds this limit they can no longer send or receive email messages. This can cause all sorts of problems for users, but there is a solution so you can stop this from happening and still be an email packrat!

We are going to create a personal folder file so that you can store all of your old emails (which you will probably never need) onto your local machine. This means that all of those precious emails will no longer be hosted on the server they will be on your hard drive in your PC on your desk. This prevents you from filling up your limited space on the server. I do recommend any IMPORTANT emails stay on the server until they are no longer must have email; this will prevent you from ever losing the important data.

The first step in this process is to go to the top of your Outlook 2003 and chose File, in this drop down menu you will find an option "Data File Management" click this. This will open the Outlook Data Files window, you get a few options to choose from and we want to click the Add button. This will open another window with a couple of choices; we want the first option that is labeled Office Outlook Personal Folders File (PST) and click OK. When you click the OK button then it will open a window where you need to name the file and save it by clicking the OK button. In the next window you can change the name of the personal folder if you want, you can also choose a password to protect the folder, but I leave it at the defaults and click OK and it will take you back to the Outlook Data Files window and you can click Close.

Now if you look at your Outlook email pane window you will see that there is now a Personal Folders file folder in the pane. This may be different if you changed the name of the Personal Folder, if you did change that then look for a folder with the name you specified.

Now you have the folder, which is great, we are getting close to where we need to be. The next step is to move all of your files/emails to this new folder that you created. In essence we are taking the files from the server and putting them onto your hard drive in your machine. You can simply drag and drop all items you want to move over to the personal folder, or if you want duplicate copies you can copy and paste the items. If you do decide to copy and paste you may still run into the error of having to much stuff in your Inbox, I suggest taking any emails that aren't from the past week and putting them into corresponding folders in the Personal Folder that we created. This will take the load off of your inbox and the exchange server. Be sure to check you sent items folder as well this is where a lot of users get tripped up, they don't realize Outlook is sending a copy of every message they sent. You can drag and drop these emails into the personal folder as well and they will be saved for you.

You will also want to be sure that as your Inbox receives messages you go in and clean it up from time to time. Make sure you move old stuff to your personal folder so it doesn't crowd your limited space on the exchange server. If you do a weekly clean up of your Inbox and move all the old stuff to the folder we created you probably won't ever have a full inbox and can avoid all the issues that come with filling up your free space on the server.

6 necessary Tips to pace awake Windows – Make your windows running faster

Windows 7 Party Signature Edition (18) by Shane's Flying Disc Show

You can't say computers cause more trouble than they're worth, because they're really quite useful. But that doesn't mean they don't cause a lot of trouble. Occasionally your computer gets slow, and you really don't know why or what you can do about it. The important thing is to determine what needs to be upgraded, and then you can decide whether or not you want to pay for it. Here are some pointers.

Hard Drive
Any time you find yourself waiting for the computer to do something, look down at the hard drive light. If it stays on during a large portion of your wait time, it's probably the hard drive that's slow. Unfortunately, chances are your hard drive isn't going to get too much faster. One option, if you have a RAID controller in your computer (either on your motherboard or as a separate card), you could add an additional drive of the same capacity, then create a RAID 0 (known as a "stripe") array with both drives. Basically what this does is have the computer alternate between drives when storing or retrieving information; with two drives, you're pretty much doubling the speed. (You can also stripe more than two drives to get faster performance, but at the price of having a lot of hard drives.) Besides that, your options for a faster hard drive are limited, since most hard drives today all have 7200RPM spin speeds, and only a few 10,000RPM drives are available for everyday use (look into Western Digital's Raptor series if you have the money for it).

Memory
Another thing you can do to help a slow hard drive is lower your system's dependence on virtual memory. Virtual memory is the portion of your memory stored on your hard drive. When the CPU needs access to virtual memory, it first has to be copied into your physical memory, meaning it has to wait on your hard drive. With more system memory, you'll need less virtual memory, and that will be an issue less of the time. And while we're talking about memory, the best way to put in memory is in dual-channel pairs (assuming your motherboard supports it). This means you put in two identical modules into designated slots to double your memory bandwidth (the rate at which you can transfer to and from memory). It's effectively the same idea as striping two hard drives.

CPU
One thing to keep in mind: there are very few cases where a CPU will actually slow down something you're doing.  In fact, if you monitor your CPU usage over a period of time, you'll see that it barely ever goes up to 100%.  One of the only mainstream activities you might see an improvement in is decompressing an archive, and even that is largely dependent on the hard drive, which we already decided is slow.  However, if you use CPU-intensive applications on your computer (like video editing, for example), there's no reason why a CPU upgrade wouldn't help.

Video Card
This is a big one, if you play a lot of games.  In general, games want a lot of CPU time, memory, and graphics performance.  Using more virual memory really just means longer loading times, so it doesn't affect the actual gameplay a lot.  The CPU decides what the screen has to show, then sends this information to the video card; it's the video card that has to decide how to draw it, and it has to be able to draw it fast enough to draw many frames every second.  As you can probably guess, the video card takes longer per frame than the CPU does, so usually the CPU is waiting for the video card and isn't used much.  Which brings us to the video card.  To a certain extent, better video cards correspond to proportionally better frame rates.  To get even more performance, use an SLI or CrossFire setup (this might require a motherboard upgrade - and with it maybe a CPU too).

How Do we compromise Windows Xp begin Up blunder?

MacBook Pro / Windows XP by cmdshiftdesign

In the Windows Operating System there is a little known about file known as the Registry. The Registry is a database that holds all of the important information that makes the Windows Operating System run efficiently. In many instances where the Operating System stops, working it can be attributed to a corrupted Registry. Therefore, it is important to perform preventive maintenance on the Registry, just as you would your hard drive.

As information is changed, and software is added, the Registry grows in size. The Registry is very similar to the hard drive in your computer. Over time, it becomes cluttered with irrelevant information and can even become fragmented as software is installed or uninstalled. This fragmenting of the data in the Registry will negatively affect your computers performance.

Software utilities are a great way to maintain and keep your Registry in peak condition. However, we must consider which is best to use, one of the many free programs available on the Internet, or purchased software from a program developer. I am reminded of an old saying, which goes, "You get what you pay for," and this holds true even where computer software is concerned. It has been my experience over the years that not all software is equal. There are very distinct differences between free and paid software.

I have found system utilities to be a very important part of keeping my computer productive and error free. Utilities that clean and defragment the Windows Registry are very important and should not be overlooked. I have used many free Registry cleaning and defragmenting software packages, but they never seemed to do a very good job, and almost never delivered the results that I was hoping for.

In my time using the free software packages that are supposed to clean and optimize the Windows Registry, I have yet to find one that does a decent job. I find many entries in the Windows Registry that I know are invalid or even wrong and after running the free software, those entries are still there.

Many of the free software being offered on the Internet are in perpetual development. This means that while you do have the ability to use it, it is still being worked on and has many bugs, which are being addressed as they arise. This software is in general only subject to very low quality assurance standards. Unfortunately, some of these programs are very poorly written and when they are used, they may remove important data from the Registry and cause your computer to crash or stop working at all.

In my opinion, it is simply a wise practice to purchase software rather than download the free stuff. With purchased software, you can be assured that you have software that has gone through rigorous quality assurance and that you can receive technical support should the need should arise.

One of the best Registry utilities I have found is Sammsoft's "Advanced Registry Cleaner." I have run comparison tests with other software and I have found that "ARC" does the best job at cleaning the Registry and removing obsolete Registry entries. It is important to realize that your computer represents a very large investment on your part and it is just as important to maintain it just as you would your car. It is important that you use the right tools for the job if you want your computer to work properly and efficiently.
